You reach into a creature's mind and give them a glimpse of their place in the universe, learning how they perceive their position within society while damaging their mind with the truth of their insignificance relative to all of existence. The target takes 2d10 mental damage and must attempt a Will save.
Critical Success The creature takes no damage.
Success The creature takes half damage, and you gain a general sense of their position and importance within their society.
Failure The creature takes full damage, and you learn the creature's social status within their society as well as one of their connections to a leader in their society, if any exist.
Critical Failure As failure, except the creature takes double damage and is Stunned 1. You can attempt a skill check to Recall Knowledge about the creature the next time you Refocus to remember additional information that you may have learned but didn't have time to process in the moment.
Heightened (+2) The damage increases by 1d10.
Traits
Something of uncommon rarity requires special training or comes from a particular culture or part of the world. Some character choices give access to uncommon options, and the GM can choose to allow access for anyone. Less is known about uncommon creatures than common creatures. They typically can't be summoned. The DC of Recall Knowledge checks related to these creature is increased by 2.
ConcentrateAn action with this trait requires a degree of mental concentration and discipline.
EmotionThis effect alters a creature's emotions. Effects with this trait always have the mental trait as well. Creatures with special training or that have mechanical or artificial intelligence are immune to emotion effects.
FocusFocus spells are a special type of spell attained directly from a branch of study, from a deity, or from another specific source. You can learn focus spells only through special class features or feats, rather than choosing them from a spell list. Furthermore, you cast focus spells using a special pool of Focus Pointsโyou can't prepare a focus spell in a spell slot or use your spell slots to cast focus spells; similarly, you can't spend your Focus Points to cast spells that aren't focus spells.
MentalA mental effect can alter the target's mind. It has no effect on an object or a mindless creature.
