The white leather cover of this book is splotched with rusty red bloodstains, and its pages seep red when turned, although this never stains the bearer's hands or clothing. Anatomical drawings illustrate its pages.

Activate—Sanguine Expulsion 1 (concentrate, spellshape)

Frequency once per day

Effect If your next action is to Cast a prepared Spell that manipulates blood, such as blood vendetta or vampiric exsanguination, or a spell dealing piercing or slashing damage, all targets of the triggering spell take 1d6 persistent, bleed damage; if the spell already causes bleed damage, the bleed damage increases by 1d6. The wounds of one affected target (chosen by you) gush uncontrollably, covering the ground with blood in a 5-foot emanation that lasts for 1 round. Creatures that begin their turn in the blood must succeed at a Reflex save against your spell DC or fall Prone.

Traits

Common

Anything that doesn't list another rarity trait (uncommon, rare, or unique) automatically has the common trait. This rarity indicates that an ability, item, or spell is available to all players who meet the prerequisites for it. A creature of this rarity is generally known and can be summoned with the appropriate summon spell.

Grimoire

Spellbooks are useful tools for any magic user to write down incantations and runes of power, but where most spellbooks are nothing more than ink on parchment, grimoires have absorbed the magic of the spells within—magic that knowledgeable spellcasters can use to augment their spells.

Magical

Something with the magical trait is imbued with magical energies not tied to a specific tradition of magic. Some items or effects are closely tied to a particular tradition of magic. In these cases, the item has the arcane, divine, occult, or primal trait instead of the magical trait. Any of these traits indicate that the item is magical.
