Frightful Presence (aura, emotion, fear, mental)

60 feet (360 underwater). will

A creature that first enters the area must attempt a Will save.

Regardless of the result of the saving throw, the creature is temporarily immune to this monster's Frightful Presence for 1 minute.

Critical Success The creature is unaffected by the presence.

Success The creature is Frightened 1.

Failure The creature is Frightened 2.

Critical Failure The creature is Frightened 4.

Dread Gaze One Action (emotion, fear, incapacitation, mental, occult, visual)

Voldrak fixes his gaze upon a creature he can see within 60 feet. His eyes glow with blue light, then begin to pulse, compelling the creature he views to remain motionless with fear. The target must attempt a DC 36 will save with the following effects. Voldrak can't use Dread Gaze again for 1d4 rounds.

Critical Success The creature is unaffected and is temporarily immune to Dread Gaze for 24 hours.

Success The creature becomes Frightened 1.

Failure The creature increases the value of its frightened condition by 1 (or becomes frightened 1 if not yet frightened). As long as the creature remains frightened, it is Slowed 2.

Critical Failure As failure, but as long as the creature remains frightened, it is Paralyzed.

Maimed But Alive

If Voldrak would kill a creature with damage from his bite or tail Strike, he can opt instead to reduce the creature to 1 Hit Point and maim it, causing the creature to become permanently Enfeebled 3 or Clumsy 3 (Voldrak's choice) from the horrific wound.

Toxic Spit Two Actions (occult, poison)

Voldrak spews a 60-foot line of toxic sludge, dealing 8d6 poison damage to all creatures in the area (DC 36 fortitude save).

It seems like every lake in Ustalav of any considerable size has its own legend about a lake monster, but in the case of Lake Laroba, these legends have been fact for as long as anyone can remember. The lake's denizen, Voldrak, was only rarely sighted in the days before the curse, despite entire expeditions of hopeful monster-watchers spending extensive hours on the lake.

Now, like all other creatures swept up by the Bastardhall Curse, Voldrak has grown worse. The lake monster torments anyone who dares ply the waters for too long. He generally prefers to frighten or maim rather than kill, for this new Voldrak enjoys the knowledge that his horrific legend might spread.

Voldrak is a sleek, plesiosaur-like serpent, with four clawed flippers, deep-red eyes, and a long tail that ends in a single long rudder-like fin. His teeth are long and terrible and protrude over his lips even when his mouth is closed.

Voldrak's Fate

Before the curse, Voldrak was an elusive @UUID[Compendium.pf2e.pathfinder-monster-core-2.Actor.Water Orm] regarded by the Arudoras almost as a mascot or pet to such an extent that they worked his image into their family crest. After the curse, though, Voldrak became a much more aggressive and dangerous monster. While he's unlikely to survive the events of Bastion of Blasphemies, Lake Laroba is deep, and who's to say the lake monster's ghost doesn't survive in its depths after the PCs return home?
