The sludge troll gets a –4 circumstance penalty to their Perception DC against Deception checks.
Regeneration 20 (Deactivated by Cold or Fire)This monster regains the listed number of Hit Points each round at the beginning of its turn. Its Dying condition never increases beyond Dying 3 as long as its regeneration is active. However, if it takes damage of a type listed in the regeneration entry, its regeneration deactivates until the end of its next turn. Deactivate the regeneration before applying any damage of a listed type, since that damage might kill the monster by bringing it to Dying 4.
Furious Spit
Trigger The sludge troll takes cold or fire damage
Effect The sludge troll makes a sludge cough Strike against a random creature within their first range increment. If the troll is taking persistent fire damage, they attempt a DC 15 flat to remove it.
Aquatic Upsurge
Requirements The sludge troll is hiding in water, and a creature that hasn't detected it is within 30 feet
Effect The sludge troll Swims, then Leaps at the end of its Swim action, landing on any solid surface adjacent to the water. Once the triggering creature is in the troll's first range increment, the sludge troll makes a sludge cough Strike against the creature with a +2 circumstance bonus to the attack roll.
Blinding SludgeA creature that is critically hit by a sludge troll's sludge cough becomes Blinded by the toxic sludge until it uses an Interact action to clear its eyes.
Goading Roar
(auditory, emotion, mental)Vink unleashes a gurgling, sputtering roar that sounds as if it issues from a throat partially clogged with mud. The sputtering sound isn't particularly frightening, but it compels other sludge trolls within 30 feet to grow more frenzied. All sludge trolls who hear Vink's Goading Roar become Quickened for 1 round, and may use the extra action to Stride or Swim.
Rend
Claw
A Rend entry lists a Strike the monster has.
Requirements The monster hit the same enemy with two consecutive Strikes of the listed type in the same round.
Effect The monster automatically deals that Strike's damage again to the enemy.
Primal Innate Spells (DC 25, +17 to hit)
Cantrips (5th Level): Ignition, Tangle Vine
2nd Level: Resist Energy
3rd Level: Aqueous Orb, Wall of Thorns
4th Level: Hydraulic Torrent
The lanky, greasy sludge troll always seems to look like they just slid out of a pool of noxious sewage or filthy swamp water, with their scaly hide dripping with oily fluids and crusty muck. While they possess the iconic underbite and tusks of the typical troll, their facial features are much more fishlike, with bulging eyes and fin-like ridges on their spine, brow, and forearms. In addition to possessing prodigious regenerative qualities, sludge trolls are immune to diseases, and as a result, they often wallow and lair in areas infested with sickness for additional defenses. Tunnels and sewage outflows are their favored places to lurk in ambush, particularly if these areas see lots of traffic from underworld denizens. Generally more stealthy and sneaky than the typical troll, a sludge troll roused to violence is as terrifying and impossible to ignore as any others of their kind.
Sewer Dwellers
While sludge trolls are often found dwelling in mires and bogs, they are also perfectly at home lurking in sewers and cisterns below urban areas. Their lanky limbs and ability to squeeze through smaller areas helps them navigate confines that might prove troublesome for other creatures of their size, yet sewer-dwelling sludge trolls are still careful to avoid attracting too much attention from those in positions of power in the city above.
Traits
A rules element with this trait is one-of-a-kind. The DC of Recall Knowledge checks related to creatures with this trait is increased by 10.
AmphibiousAn amphibious creature can breathe in water and in air, even outside of its preferred environment, usually indefinitely but at least for hours. These creatures often have a swim Speed. Their bludgeoning and slashing unarmed Strikes don't take the usual –2 penalty for being underwater.
GiantGiants are massive humanoid creatures.
HumanoidHumanoid creatures reason and act much like humans. They typically stand upright and have two arms and two legs.
TrollTrolls are giant, brutish creatures and are well known for transforming into inanimate materials.
WaterEffects with the water trait either manipulate or conjure water. Those that manipulate water have no effect in an area without water. Creatures with this trait consist primarily of water or have a connection to magical water.
