The Heart of Sarnax can hear a living creature's heartbeat as a precise sense in the listed range.
Speak to Inner Evils
(auditory, emotion, linguistic, mental)Frequency once per round
Effect The Heart of Sarnax speaks to a creature it can hear the heartbeat of within 60 feet, beckoning that creature to give in to their inner desires to commit evil acts. The Heart of Sarnax attempts an Intimidation check against the target's Will DC, with the following results.
Critical Success The inner evils take over fully, and the target becomes Confused for 1 minute. While confused, the creature will never attack the Heart of Sarnax, attacking themself instead if the Heart of Sarnax is the only viable target. The Heart of Sarnax becomes Quickened for 1 round, and can use the extra action only to Speak to Inner Evils.
Success The inner evils take over only briefly. The creature becomes confused for 1 round.
Failure The inner evils fail to take over fully but are still distracting. The creature becomes Off-Guard until the end of their next turn.
Critical Failure The creature resists their inner evils and is immune to Speak to Inner Evils from this point on. The Heart of Sarnax recoils in shock, taking 4d6 mental damage (DC 25 will save).
Void Beam
(arcane, void)The Heart of Sarnax fires a 60-foot line of spiraling, shadowy void energy from the cavity in its chest. Creatures in the area take 7d6 void damage (DC 24 fortitude). The Heart of Sarnax can't use Void Beam again for 1d4 rounds.
When Sarnax sought to purge his soul of all evils, the result was a physical manifestation of crystal that approximated the size and shape of his heart. The evil contained within remained quiescent as long as Sarnax lived, but upon his death, the item gained power, no longer held in check by Sarnax's living soul. If returned to any version of the living Sarnax, this grown evil manifests into a creature made of solid ruby whose first and primary goal is the destruction of its source. Afterward, the Heart of Sarnax can turn its attention to the world, eager to visit upon reality all the evils, both petty and potent, that Sarnax might have pursued had he fallen from grace while alive.
Traits
A rules element with this trait is one-of-a-kind. The DC of Recall Knowledge checks related to creatures with this trait is increased by 10.
ConstructA construct is an artificial creature empowered by a force other than vitality or void. Constructs are often mindless; they are immune to bleed, death effects, disease, healing, nonlethal attacks, poison, spirit, vitality, void, and the doomed, drained, fatigued, paralyzed, sickened, and unconscious conditions; and they may have Hardness based on the materials used to construct their bodies. Constructs are not living creatures, nor are they undead. When reduced to 0 Hit Points, a construct creature is destroyed.
UnholyEffects with the unholy trait are tied to powerful magical forces of cruelty and sin. They often have stronger effects on holy creatures. Creatures with this trait are strongly devoted to unholy causes, and often have weakness to holy. If a creature with weakness to unholy uses an unholy item or effect, it takes damage from its weakness.
